Fauré Requiem

and Friends
A profound meditation on the restful warmth awaiting in paradise, ‘Requiem’ by Gabriel Fauré shines as brightly today as it did at its birth in France’s Belle Epoque. A cornerstone of sacred choral music – radiant and intimate – filled with serene consolation – its beauty lies in its gentleness and optimism. In Fauré’s own words “from beginning to end it elevates heart and soul by a very human feeling of faith in eternal rest.”
Set in the context of an evening Mass for Remembrance Sunday in the historic and resonant surrounds of Christ Church South Yarra, this arrangement, reconfigured for string quintet and organ by Michael Higgins, perfectly preserves the work’s transcendent spirit, as ‘…the voices of angels sing us into paradise.’.
